What’s that shiny thing in your hand!!!

Yup…its the latest model of swanky new smart phone. HomoSapien’s  new organ which they get to carry along and walk in circles as they move ahead……the new organ which envelopes more information than a child genius whose I.Q. is above 130…can find you love, sex, friendship…boost your alter ego, gives your thumb soreness….and above all has engineered the need of instant gratification and instant ways to escape……………………that’s why one of the HomoSapien like me doesn’t need to mop or worry for long as there are always so many options,so many apps……..and they are just a touch away or just a beep away from the next best shiny thing rushing my way………

But for now…

I stare at the setting Sun

the waves of the ocean thrash the rock

I am sitting on

seconds, … years pass by

as I count  the minutes of the warmth I am left with…..

I let my back face the world that goes by

familiar footsteps

familiar voices

bat filled dark caves

maze of my thoughts

unfinished chores

unanswered telephone calls

muted aspirations

and many more such mundane items….

but for now I like how the horizon looks

orange and purple……………………..

“I guess sometimes we just need to watch the Sunset to get some perspective……..”

I hiked up to a small hill on my recent holiday at a beach…….clouded with thoughts and doubts……with semi-purpose and optical illusions all around…..well all I mean by my above mambo-jumbo is that…I was disoriented with my insecurities and wanted some perspective.

And then when I reached the small rocky hill’s top….The Sun was setting….as I saw one of the most commonly viewed spectacles of the earth….a new dawn set in my mind…all my clouded thoughts and doubts were gone and I had a new perspective.

I guess sometimes we just need to watch the SImageunset to get some perspective………

That’s the picture of the Sunset I was watching the other day…………………………………………………………………………….>>>

My ‘new year resolutions’…..

1. Learn how to skip a stone in calm water.

2. Engineer an argument which turns into a long debate between two old people.

3. Go on a date with someone who completes the line: ‘Once upon a time……………………………………………..” to best of my imagination.

4. Leave some of my favorite books at a local park (still trying to convince myself about this one…if this is a good random act of gifting to some one unknown).

5. Use the line: ‘I Failed’ at least twelve times in the year and don’t nurse the feeling of regret.

6. Collect unknown people’s travel tickets (some discarded tickets I am planning to pick from various travel places like train stations or airports and some I would collect from random people) and try to write their travel stories…according to my limited thinking and imagination(hopefully this would be an interesting journal for me to read by the end of year).

7. Take a challenge of solving 25 algebraic equations within 30 minutes(there was a time in school when I used to thrive at challenges like this…….no wonder I was called the Math nerd in school).

8. Cook a meal at someone’s house who I meet in one of my trips in a differant country.

9. Build a sand Castle at one of my favorite beaches.

10. and try to sneak afternoon snooze:)

the more..the merrier

My mum has a holiday tradition(if you can call it a tradition..)…where she invites her old friends from far off corners of the world to come and celebrate the holiday time at her house. Every time I see some new faces in my mother’s house around holidays.Last time, she had a friend coming from Zimbabwe.A 50 year old lady named Maiba. She looked lost among other friends of my mother who were busy indulging in their ‘familiar banter’ .She kept nodding and smiling. After sometime, when she could spend some exclusive time with my mother,I guess she looked the most animated and fun person in the entire room full of people(and trust me..these people were happy too..umm read tipsy=)).I like to call people who look most attractive in room(not just externally)…the disco ball of the room=)

okay..lets get back to the story….and try to understand the point I am trying to make(which I gather..I am struggling to right now)…………………………………….

Miaba from Zimbabwe and my mother were meeting each other after eight years. However, when I saw them together..they looked like those type of best friends who go out to a cafe or call each other every other day. They spoke in Shona (pronounced  “Shown-ah”), a local language of Zimbabwe (its a different story that my mother is a language geek and can speak fourteen different languages). When they spoke that harsh and sweet sounding language…they looked like they were time traveling…………………………………..

Later that evening, when I asked my mother about her friend and her tradition of inviting people over……..she said, ” Some people write journals………to keep record of their life and then read it in later part of their lives……..I make as many friends as possible with whom I can share my journey and relive it as many times as I can…and since I am blessed with a career which involves travel…I try and make friends from all over the world…. Friends who share with me my present and laugh with me about my past and every time I have to travel somewhere….I am delighted to meet my old friends and woo some new ones……as they say the more…the merrier=).”
